Sorry I have not posted much at all. I promise I am going to do a better job of posting and responding to posts now that summer is here.
Two things.
First, just to catch you guys up to what is up with Kristin and I...Kristin is now 5 months pregnant. We are having twins...a boy and a girl. We are open to people purchasing the naming rights to each of the children, within certain boundaries. Just submit a proposal, along with dollar amount and we will get back to you.
Second, and this is the purpose for the title "Thoughts and Discussion Needed", I am giving you a link to a sermon to which you MUST listen. This is one of the most critical issues facing the church, yet we are turning a deaf ear to it.
Voddie Baucham has hit the nail on the head (as usual) and delivers and great message on a subject we must all admit we handle very poorly in our churches.
Please listen and we can discuss it together.

Click on "listen" on the sermon: "The Centrality of the Home"
I look forward to the discussion we'll have. I'll wait a day or two before posting some questions about the sermon and how we can make some changes in our churches.

wow jason,
that was excellent. this is the kind of stuff I have been hearing in the PCA and I am absolutely elated to here this from a SBC pastor.
This is what I was alluding to when I made the comment earlier that once we reformers can get past debating election in our churches we can get to the real meat of what it means to be reformed. vodie has touched on it here.
I will reserve any further comment until everybody has a chance to listen to it.
PEOPLE: Please listen to this link, it is amazing stuff!
I will only give you to the end of the week, and then I guess the usual suspects will discuss it.
after giving everybody some time to listen I gues I will be the first to start the coversation.
Tow issues I see here are:
1. how we so ministry in our churches
2. how we view children
I will go straight to #2
All i want is for all of us husbands to really think of how what vodie said applies to us and our families. If we really think what he said has biblical foundations (which i do) then we must be willing to act.
So for starters, here are a few questions. And i don't mean for these to sound like i am pointing any fingers. these are questions i have been working through over the past year and a half.
1. If one of the purposes of marraige is to multiply and fill the earth, what is my role.
2. Is my family exempt from this commandment?
3. If not, is their a "grace period" for me to decide on when i want to start obeying this commandment.
4. Is it something godly in my heart giving me this aversion to a large family or is it the hardness of my heart?
please respond to these questions freely. this topic is one that we should all discuss at length.
I can't wait to here JGray and Drock on Question #1...I think viewing the family as segments has got to go. The church needs to be a FAMILY of FAMILIES...we'll discuss this one more soon I hope.
Question #2 is what has been gripping my heart since I listened. Much repentence was/is needed as I was the person Voddie was describing as wanting to "enjoy my marriage for X number of years" before we have kids. A few thoughts:
The attitude towards kids and the understanding of what they are has to change. This must be taught from the pulpit and hard questions have to be asked. We are entrenched in a culture that runs so counter to the Biblical view that this will not be easy (see me as exhibit A).
Husband and wife must be on their knees before God in prayer about these issues. We have made conception a science and we no longer view this as from God-Alone opening and closing the womb. My wife and I need to be praying far more than we do.
Now, do I feel all couples should marry and be expecting within weeks--no. Is there any Biblical timeline that says "obedience = 6 kids within 7 years"--no. But if our attitude aligns with Scripture then we have to get rid of the excuses our world has fed us.
Please continue the discussion...
